Headache & Migraine
Treatment

Causes of Migraines

Migraines are caused by different things for different people. Sometimes they come from poor body structure, due to asymmetrical shifts and/or poor posture. Other reasons include:

  • Environmental exposure
  • Stress
  • Adrenal fatigue or dysfunction
  • Exposure to chemicals in food such as MSG, preservatives, and pesticides
  • Uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Poor blood sugar regulation

Migraine Triggers & Management

A great starting point to better manage migraine treatment is to use a journal to record details about each migraine: length, severity, any important details that will bring you closer to recognizing triggers. Keeping track like this will allow you to better study your behavior and notice patterns of frequency.

In general, the following helps reduce migraines along with providing other benefits:

  • Practice regular exercise
  • Reduce stress through activities like yoga and meditation
  • Allow for a proper sleep schedule
  • Drink plenty of water

If you typically never have headaches, and you are suddenly experiencing severe/extreme headaches or migraines, consider emergency services before consulting with a chiropractor.

Chiropractic's Role in Treatment

Structural Correction approaches migraines as a secondary condition(symptom), not a primary condition(root problem). This doesn’t mean they are any less important, rather the opposite. By recognizing the primary condition through structural exams, we can begin defining the individual causes of the migraines and sometimes even the origin. Together, we’ll use this information for a care plan including: regular chiropractic care, at-home therapy, nutritional guidance, and more if needed.

Many of you who have experience with migraines know that they are resilient and often unforgiving. They will not just go away with short-term relief care. This is why sticking to a care plan is important, because consistent progress requires consistent action.
